Bernard arrived on Merseyside in the summer of 2018 from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk after his contract ran out.
The Brazilian has found his game time at Goodison Park cut short under Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian revamping his midfield by bringing in the likes of James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan over the summer.
And according to Italian outlet LAROMA24.IT, Serie A giants Roma are plotting a last ditch swoop to snap up Bernard from Everton with the transfer clock counting down and them facing an uphill battle to secure El Shaarawy.
Giallorossi boss Paulo Fonseca is keen on reuniting with Bernard in Italy having worked with the Brazilian during his stint at Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Rome outfit are engineering a deal around the €7m mark in an effort to lure Bernard away to Stadio Olimpico before the transfer window slams shut.
Bernard is yet to play a single minute of football in the current Premier League campaign and remained on the bench as an unused substitute in all four of Everton’s league games so far.
However the 28-year old started the Toffees’ opening two EFL Cup games, but was again relegated to the bench in his team’s EFL Cup win against West Ham United last Wednesday.
