Manchester United signed Telles for a fee of €15m plus add-ons from Porto on deadline day and he signed a four-year contract with the Red Devils.

The Brazilian’s performances over the last few years at Porto have attracted the attention of several clubs and his ability to provide an attacking outlet from left-back is wanted by most big teams in Europe.

Utkucan, who spotted the left-back for Galatasaray, admits that he is surprised some of the top teams did not sign Telles from Porto in the last two years as he has been performing at a high level for some time.

He insisted that he deserved to move to Manchester United and to play at the top level in one of the best leagues of Europe.

“I think he has been there at the top level for the last two, three years”, Utkucan told The Athletic.

“I don’t know why a transfer didn’t happen before. I think it’s due to the market and the money Porto were demanding [Telles’ buyout clause was set at €40m].

“But he deserves this level of football based on his form in the last two seasons especially.

“For a left-back, his attacking output is remarkable.”

The Galatasaray chief scout admits that Telles will need to time to adapt to Manchester United and the Premier League.

But he is confident that he has the ability to excel in England.

“United is a massive, massive club, and this is a different standard of football.

“It’s a more physical league, and he may take time to adapt. But I know the guy, his mental strength and his abilities.

“I am sure he will do great things.”
