The two players were keen to move on from Watford after their relegation from the Premier League last season and their futures were sorted out towards the end of the transfer window.

Udinese signed Pereyra on a permanent deal towards the end of last month and Deulofeu completed a loan move to Watford on a season-long loan deal on international deadline day.

The deals were easy to negotiate as the Pozzo family own both clubs and Antonelli feels the dual ownership allows them to shift players in and out of clubs easily.

However, he did point out Udinese only got the two players on favourable terms as Watford were relegated and were desperate to shift them out of the club.

Antonelli told Italian outlet Tutto Mercato: “The double ownership allows you a unique chance to park players and sometimes it can be a weakness.

“But in this case, it got them Pereyra and Deulofeu, but through a negative.

“Watford’s relegation to the Championship allowed Udinese to strengthen.”

Deulofeu still has three years left to run on his contract with Watford and is scheduled to return to England next summer.
