The 21-year-old Frenchman completed a move to Southampton from Brest towards the end of the international transfer window.

The Saints splashed out a fee worth £11m to snare Diallo away from the Ligue 1 outfit and strengthen their midfield options for the season.

The midfielder is just 21 and he concedes that it is a risk to move to the Premier League at his age, but he insisted that it was a well-thought-out decision.

The Frenchman stressed that he did not take the decision under the influence of any emotions and is confident that he is ready to play in the Premier League at the moment.

Diallo told French sports daily L’Equipe: “Obviously it is a risk, like any other change.

“But it is a calculated risk too. I didn’t make the decision naively under the influence of emotion.

“I have thought about it for a long time and whatever happens I know I will not regret it.”

He added “If I didn’t feel ready, I wouldn’t have made this choice.

“Of course, I feel ready, I am determined to face this challenge.”

Diallo made 53 senior appearances for Brest before taking the decision to move to the riches of the Premier League with Southampton.
