Elliott is due to join Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers side on loan and will drop down to the Championship to play regular first team football.

However, Blackburn have benefited from two factors as Liverpool had not intended to let Elliott leave Anfield.

Liverpool’s exit from the EFL Cup meant fewer chances to play for the Reds, while Xherdan Shaqiri staying at the club also caused the Premier League champions to open up to Elliot’s exit.

Blackburn also enjoy a good relationship with Liverpool.

And it has helped the Ewood Park outfit to convince Liverpool that sending Elliott to them is the right call.

Elliott is highly rated at Liverpool and Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on his development.

It remains to be seen what length the loan is and whether Liverpool will have a recall clause.
