A Nicolas Tagliafico goal in the first half was the difference as Liverpool beat Ajax 1-0 in the first group game of their Champions League campaign at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.

Ajax created a number of opportunities to score, but some last-ditch defending and some poor finishing meant, Liverpool left Amsterdam with three points in the bag.

Blind conceded that the result was disappointing as Ajax managed to create a number of chances to score against a team of Liverpool’s stature and class.

He admits that the Dutch champions deserved a point from the game but feels at the end they have only themselves to blame on the night.

The defender insisted that they should have taken at least one of those chances against the Reds.

Blind told Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport: “At the end, it is all about the result.

“In that sense we are dissatisfied, but in any case, we created enough opportunities against a top team such as Liverpool.

“You have to take at least one of those chances.

“A draw would certainly have been a deserved result.

“Every game is about details.

“You can say we were unfortunate, but in the end, you have to do it yourself.

“Nobody will help you. You have got to take those chances.”

Ajax had 12 goal attempts and five shots on target against Liverpool with 48 per cent of the possession.
