The Premier League has been unpredictable so far this season, with defending champions Liverpool suffering a 7-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, while Leicester City drubbed Manchester City 5-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Going into the international break, the Reds sit third in the league table with 17 points while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are placed 10th with 12 points.

Leicester currently sit atop the league table with Tottenham Hotspur just behind them, but Premier League legend Shearer does not expect either of them to emerge as champions.

The ex-Newcastle star is confident that either Liverpool or Manchester City will be crowned champions come the end of the season despite the league unpredictable so far.

“Their [Liverpool’s] big setback this season was obviously the 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa, which was a result that shocked everyone – but it’s notable that they have not lost in seven games since“, Shearer wrote in his BBC Sport column.

They can still terrify teams when they pour forward and, like City, they are not going away anytime soon.

This season may be unpredictable, but one of them will end it as champions, I am certain of that.

With just less than a quarter of the campaign played, it remains to be seen if either Liverpool or Manchester City will claim the title or if the likes of Leicester or Spurs can spring a surprise.
