Jose Mourinho’s side signed the 21-year-old midfielder from Portuguese top flight side on loan until the end of the 2020/21 season in January this year.

However, Gedson has only played 61 minutes of Premier League football since joining the north London club,. with Mourinho being spoilt for choice when it comes to midfield options.

Although he has not played much at Spurs, former Portuguese star Idalecio feels the Benfica loanee has done well for the team whenever called upon.

The ex-Braga star, who currently resides in London, pointed out how Fernandes’ signing was a surprise in England, but thinks the player has a good image among the fans, having impressed when he got chances.

Gedson’s arrival was a surprise here in England“, Idalecio told Portuguese outlet Desporto ao Minuto.

There weren’t many opportunities for him to play at Benfica, but here he did well whenever he was called upon.

He didn’t have many [chances], but in one of them, he even played right-back, putting in a good performance and deserved praise.

There were high expectations of what he could become at Tottenham.

I think the opinion [of him] is good among the fans.

Gedson has made just one appearance for Tottenham so far this season and could cut short his loan spell at the club to return to Benfica in January.
