McLaughlin arrived at Ibrox during the recent transfer window from League One side Sunderland on a free transfer, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal in Glasgow.

The 33-year-old has shared the spot between the sticks with Gers number 1 Allan McGregor and the former Black Cats star has started nine Scottish Premiership games so far this season.

Gerrard, who is content with how McLaughlin has adjusted to life at Ibrox, promised the Scotsman will be handed more minutes on the pitch as the season progresses.

Squad rotation has played a key part in the Gers maintaining their standards across all competitions and Gerrard expressed his delight in having two top-notch shot-stoppers at his disposal, while tipping McLaughlin along with Ryan Jack to be amongst the names in the Scotland national squad for Euro 2020

“We have two top-class number 1 goalkeepers here”, Gerrard told a press conference.

“I want both players [McLaughlin and [Jack] to go to the Euros and represent the country in the summer.

“Jon will get minutes between now and the end of the season.”

Rangers are back in action on Sunday when they play host to Aberdeen at Ibrox in the league and Gerard will be keen on his squad continuing their unbeaten run in the top flight with a win at home.
