The Reds have been marred by injuries this season, especially at the back, where Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are sidelined with long-term injuries.

Despite having their two key centre-backs out with injuries, it is still far from clear whether Liverpool are prepared to spend money to bring in a defender in next month’s transfer window.

At the same time, the Merseyside-based club have also been linked with a number of centre-backs, including highly-rated RB Leipzig star Upamecano.

And now, according to German daily Bild, Liverpool also have Upamecano’s team-mate Konate on their list of defensive targets.

The France Under-21s international is tied to the Bundesliga club until the summer of 2023, but has a release clause of €50m in his contract.

Konate has also been linked with Liverpool’s Premier League rivals and London giants Arsenal.

With the 21-year-old linked with a move to Anfield, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will make a move for the player in January.
