Tavernier scored his 17th goal of the season with a sumptuous free-kick in Rangers’ 2-1 win over Dundee United on Sunday, keeping the Gers in pole position to win the Scottish Premiership title.

The 29-year-old full-back has already equalled his best goalscoring record in a season with the 17th goal just half-way through the 2020/21 campaign.

He is the top goalscorer in Scotland at the moment despite being a defender and has been one of the best players for Rangers as they look to wrestle back the league title away from Celtic this term.

Ex-Ireland international Elliott believes Tavernier is playing the best football of his career and has backed clubs to look to snap him up in the January transfer window.

Elliott wrote on Twitter: “Surely a few big clubs will be looking to sign him in January.

“In his prime too.

“Has been outstanding this season.”

Rangers are likely to resist selling any of their best players in January as they look to win the league title this season, but it remains to be seen if they are made an offer they cannot refuse.
