Arsenal opted to let the scout depart earlier this year, despite his record for uncovering talents being lauded, and the decision was widely questioned.

Further scrutiny has been placed on the call to move Cagigao on following Arsenal’s disastrous start to the new season, with the Gunners now struggling at the lower end of the Premier League table.

Cagigao though has now bounced back into his next job and will take on the role of sporting director for Chile.

He will be looking to help Chile improve through the age groups, up to senior international level, where the side is bossed by Reinaldo Rueda.

Chile are involved in next year’s Copa America, due to run during June and July, across Argentina and Colombia.

Cagigao helped Arsenal sign Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Santi Cazorla, Jose Antonio Reyes, Lauren and Nacho Monreal.

He also guided the club towards snapping up a number of the players they currently have on the books.

The scout spent 24 years on the books at Arsenal.
