The Premier League giants have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 19-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder from Independiente.

It had been claimed that a $5m deal has already been agreed and the club are now reportedly waiting to see whether they can obtain a work permit for the move to go through in January.

However, Manchester United have not put in a formal bid for Caicedo.

Manchester United have held talks with the player and Independiente and are expected to make a move for him.

But the club are only expected to table a formal bid for him at the start of next month.

Manchester United’s South American scouts have extensively scouted him over the last few months and he is rated at the same level as Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo.

The Premier League giants are keen to do a deal but it will take some more time before a definitive agreement is reached with Independiente and the player.

Caicedo is rated highly in South America and has already played four times for Ecuador on the international stage.
