Leeds hammered West Brom 5-0 at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night and moved up to eleventh in the Premier League standings.
The Whites have managed to shake off a patchy run of form to win their last two games and climb up the Premier League ladder this season.
Owen stressed that people need to stop focusing on Leeds’ attacking style and their perceived need to become tighter whenever they suffer a poor result.
He insisted that it is the way Leeds get the best out of themselves and they are unlikely to be where they are at the moment if they played more defensive football.
The former striker said on Premier League TV after the game: “I mean Leeds when they are on fire, they are absolutely brilliant.
“I hate it when people have a go at Leeds.
“When they get beaten like the 6-2 at Old Trafford, people have a go at them – they need to be tighter, they need to do this.
“If Leeds play like a West Brom, starting parking the bus and something like that, they wouldn’t be on the amount of points they are on now.
“This is their way of playing.
“Yes, you have got to take the rough with the smooth but this is their way of playing and they do this best.”
Leeds are unlikely to change their style of football when they travel to London to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.
