The Red Devils are currently level on points with league leaders Liverpool, with 33 points, having played one game fewer than the Reds.

Manchester United could go top of the table tonight if they draw or win at Turf Moor, ahead of their weekend trip to Liverpool.

And Fjortoft has predicted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men can challenge for the title in the current campaign if they return from the Burnley trip without a loss

The former Norway hitman is of the view that this week is decisive for Manchester United in terms of their title hopes as he stressed the need for them to go to Merseyside with a positive result.

Fjortoft took to Twitter and wrote: “What a decisive game for Manchester United this week.

“If they can get away from this game without a loss, I predict that they can challenge for the title this season.

“Not the Liverpool-game by the way.

“I am talking about the Burnley-game.”

Liverpool do not have a midweek game and will be well rested when they host Manchester United, but Jurgen Klopp’s side have recently struggled in the league and are winless in their last three outings, slipping to a 1-0 defeat against Southampton in their last outing.
