Lingard is reluctant to move to Sheffield United, who have shown an interest in taking him to Bramall Lane in the ongoing transfer window, due to the fact he would be in a relegation battle.

Manchester United extended his contract by one more year recently to protect his value and have been open to offers for him this month.

Nice have stepped in to sign the winger on loan in the ongoing transfer window and they have held talks with the player’s representatives.

The initial discussions have taken place and they seem to have moved into the right direction as Nice are claimed to be ready to table an offer.

The French club are expected to make an official approach to Manchester United for Lingard next week.

Lingard has made just three appearances this season, the last one coming in the FA Cup clash against Watford last week.

However, Manchester United are yet to take a final decision on whether to let him go in the winter window.
