The Gunners’ good run of form in the league continued on Tuesday night when they beat Southampton 3-1 and moved up to eighth in the Premier League standings.
Arsenal have managed to somewhat recover from their horror start to the season and have been gradually creeping up the league table over the last few weeks.
Thomas’ regular pressure in the middle of the park has been of massive help for Mikel Arteta’s side and Wright stressed that his constant need to pass the ball forward makes him a game-changer for the team.
He believes Thomas’ progressive passing brings out the best from the creative players in the team and the team have started to create more chances to score goals.
The Arsenal legend said on Premier League TV after the win at Southampton: “He is a game-changer simply because of the way he plays in midfield.
“He is somebody who does not pass the ball sideways, he wants to pass the ball forward and that gets everybody forward.
“If you have got people like Emile Smith Rowe and [Bukayo] Saka in the area where they can pick up the ball and then they can both progress and run with it.
“All of a sudden you have got their defenders running backwards and you have got people starting to make runs and create, which we weren’t doing a few weeks back.”
Thomas struggled with injuries at the start of the season but has started the last two Premier League games.
