The Gers reached a pre-contract agreement with Wright last month after the winger rejected a contract extension at Aberdeen.
However, Rangers accelerated the move to rope in Wright in the current window and managed to strike a deal with Aberdeen that will see him move to Ibrox mid-season.
The winger is set to complete his move to Glasgow in the coming hours with Rangers paying Aberdeen a fee in the region of £150,000 for his signature.
Wright is set to be available at Steven Gerrard’s disposal from this month onward with a four-and-a-half year deal in place.
The 23-year-old was a fixture in Derek McInnes’ squad this season and the Dons were initially reluctant to part ways with player midway through the campaign.
But Gers succeeded in convincing Aberdeen to let Wright leave, a deal which also sees Gers loanee Ross McCrorie given permission to make his move to Pittodrie permanent ahead of the previous agreement.
McCrorie left Ibrox in the last window and was only supposed to make his move permanent in the summer, but is now set to join McInnes’ squad this month, with both clubs looking to wrap up proceedings before the clock winds down on the transfer window at midnight.
