The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is on the wanted list of several clubs in Europe and is expected to exit Gladbach at the end of the season.
He will enter the final year of his contract with the German club in the summer and they have been trying to convince him to sign a new deal.
There are claims that the Bundesliga outfit are even prepared to include a release clause in his proposed new deal, but it seems his mind has been made up.
And according to German magazine Sport Bild, Zakaria has indicated it clearly to Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl that he wants to leave.
The midfielder has rejected Gladbach’s offer of release clause and he is keen to find a new club in the summer.
With his contract running out, the German club will have little option but to cash in on him at the end of the season.
Manchester City are one of the several clubs who have been linked with wanting the midfielder.
Zakaria has proved his fitness this season after recovering from a serious knee injury and is now preparing for the next step in his career.
