The Magpies fell to their 13th defeat of the season away at Chelsea on Monday night as goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner ensured the home team bagged all three points in a 2-0 win.

Newcastle are now 17th in the standings; seven points separating them from the drop zone with Fulham trailing behind the Tyneside giants in 18th while also having a game in hand.

Although Steve Bruce’s men only have just two wins in their last 13 Premier League outings and are just above the relegation spots, ex-Magpies hitman Shearer is of the view that Newcastle owner Ashley is yet to panic over his club’s fortunes.

Shearer explained that Ashley does not care where the Magpies finish in the league as long as they avoid relegation as Newcastle’s upper hierarchy are only concerned about the club maintaining their top flight status.

“Well Newcastle’s situation and the owner at Newcastle is only bothered about one thing and that is keeping Newcastle United in the Premier League”, Shearer said after Newcastle’s loss on Premier League TV.

“They are not bothered whether they finish fourth bottom or fifth bottom so long as they stay in the Premier League.

“So, I don’t see them panicking as yet.

“That is a tough game that Fulham have at Burnley away, the next game.”

Fulham, who are desperately trying to leapfrog Newcastle in the standings and into safety, will face Burnley on Wednesday, while the Magpies are set for a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the top flight on Sunday.
