Fernandes scored twice in a 4-0 win over Real Sociedad on Thursday night as Manchester United more or less booked their place in the last 16 of the Europa League even before the second leg at Old Trafford next week.

The Portuguese has scored 21 goals this season in all competitions and while he is happy with his form, he stressed that he would be happy to not score again this season if Manchester United can win a trophy.

The Red Devils have lost four cup semi-finals under Solskjaer, including the Europa League semi-final last season and Fernandes insisted that Manchester United are in the competition to win it.

He stressed Manchester United are meant to win trophies and they are completely focused on winning silverware this season.

Fernandes said on MUTV: “I feel good [about my form].

“The most important thing will be the trophies at the end of the season.

“I know everyone is a bit tired of me saying this but I prefer to not score any more goals from here until the end of the season and get trophies.

“Of course I want to score in every game, assist in every game and win every game but at the end of everything is the trophies we are all about.

“We talk about trophies all the time and we know for this club, we have to win trophies because it is just not good enough to be in the competitions and not win.”

Manchester United are ten points behind Manchester City in the title race but are in with a chance to win the Europa League and the FA Cup this season.
