The 20-year-old goalkeeper has struggled in recent games, especially in Leeds’ defeat to Arsenal earlier in the month.

The Frenchman was also unlucky to score an own in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Friday night and could be struggling for confidence between the sticks.

Marcelo Bielsa has continued to support his number one goalkeeper and Dorigo pointed out that the goalkeeper’s detractors need to remember how young Meslier still is, especially for a shot-stopper.

He believes that for a 20-year-old goalkeeper, he has been exceptional for Leeds and has performed consistently at the top level in the Premier League.

Dorigo said on LUTV: “[I was] very impressed [with Meslier].

“What everyone needs to understand that this young man is just that, he is young; he is 20.

“For a goalkeeper, that’s talking baby terms and you are not even out of your cot yet.

“When you get more experienced your decision-making gets better and certainly concentration levels.

“And that comes with age and years.

“And this young man performing at such a high level for a 20-year-old goalkeeper is tremendous.”

Leeds signed Meslier on loan in 2019 from Lorient and he was forced to assume the number one’s duties at the business end of the Championship season when Kiko Casilla was handed a long suspension.

The Frenchman played a key role in Leeds being promoted and the club signed him on a permanent deal last summer.
