The veteran produced an overhead kick to hand Chelsea a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday night.

The Frenchman has not played much since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival last month but goals against Sheffield United and Atletico Madrid have proved his worth to the squad.

He is out of contract in the summer and several clubs are interested in signing him on a free transfer ahead of next season.

But it has been claimed that Giroud himself has not ruled out the possibility of staying with the London club by signing an extension.

The Frenchman has enjoyed his time at Chelsea and while he was close to leaving the club on more than one occasion due to a lack of game time, he has stayed put at the west London side and proved his worth to the team.

He is also realistic about his chances of getting regular game time but wants to play enough to make sure that he is in France’s World Cup squad in 2022.

Chelsea are interested in signing Erling Haaland but are expected to face stiff competition to land him.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea and Giroud agree to extend their cooperation.
