Gotts cut short his loan stint with Lincoln City and joined League Two club Salford on loan until the end of the season from Leeds midway through the winter transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been a regular starter for the Ammies since he moved to Moor Lane, starting seven league games and contributing three goals to Wellens’ side.

Salford manager Wellens has been delighted with the Leeds loanee’s output and explained that the amount of work the youngster has put in for the club is tremendous.

Explaining his decision to take Gotts off in the second half against Morecambe, who went on to net a late equaliser, then score a winner and earn a 2-1 win, Wellens suggested that the midfielder was looking tired.

The amount of work that Ian Henderson and Robbie Gotts put in in the last three-four weeks is tremendous“, Wellens told Salford’s in-house media.

Their output is always the highest.

I thought the last 20 minutes we were running on empty, so we put on fresh legs.

Gotts provided the assist for Salford’s goal towards the end of the first half and was then taken off in the 63rd minute of the match.
