The Citizen hitman, who is on a season-long loan in Belgium, has been spearheading Anderlecht’s attack so far this season with 15 goals to his name from 29 outings across all completions.

Nmecha was on target again as he scored the only goal in the Belgian Cup quarter-final on Wednesday, helping his team edge past Cercle Brugge 1-0.

The 22 -year-old, has expressed his delight in scoring in the cup tie and stressed as a striker tasked with leading the attack, it is his job to find the back of the net as regularly as possible.

Anderlecht struggled to further their advantage in the second half against Cercle Brugge and Nmecha admitted it is difficult to put up consecutive good performances, having had a tough outing in a 3-1 win against Standard Liege in the Jupiler Pro League on Sunday.

“Thanks to Sambi Lokonga for the excellent pass”, Nmecha was quoted as saying by Belgian daily La Derniere Heure.

“I did the rest.

“It’s my job to score.

“But we should have killed off the game much earlier.

“We made life difficult for ourselves.

“We were coming [into the cup tie] on the back of a tough game in Sclessin, it is not easy to put up good performances back-to-back.

“But hey, this is not an excuse. “

Anderlecht are keen on keeping hold of Nmecha for another season and are prepared to sit at the negotiating table with Manchester City in the summer in the hope of extending his loan stint by another year.
