After just about surviving in the Premier League last year, the Hammers have surprised this term with their consistency of performances.

West Ham are sitting in fourth in the Premier League standings and to the shock of many, they are very much in the race to play Champions League football next season.

They will be facing Manchester United a week from Sunday and McIlroy conceded that it will be a tough game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

He believes David Moyes has done a brilliant job and conceded that he never saw West Ham moving forward and challenging for a top four spot at this stage of the campaign.

The former Red Devil said on MUTV following the draw against Crystal Palace: “That could be a big game.

“David Moyes has done a remarkable job at West Ham.

“Never in a million years would I have seen them at this stage of the season fighting for a place in the top four.

“That will be a difficult game, as the FA Cup tie was.”

Manchester United beat West Ham 3-1 at the London Stadium earlier in the season and also won a hard-fought FA Cup tie against the Hammers last month.
