Joachim Low is set to resign from his role of Germany coach at the end of this summer’s European Championship.

His contract had another year left to run but the World Cup-winning coach has decided to end his time with the national team early.

With Germany on the lookout for a new coach, Klopp has been instantly linked with the job despite the Liverpool manager categorically denying the speculation.

Liverpool’s form at the moment has led to suggestions that the former Dortmund coach could be available, but Matthaus believes the German FA do not need to wait for the Reds manager’s stock to continue to plummet.

He believes in former RB Leipzig coach Rangnick, Germany already have a ready-made candidate who could come in and take charge of the national team.

Matthaus said on Sky Deutschland: “Ralf Rangnick is free.

“You don’t have to hope that the results in Liverpool will continue to be bad and that Jurgen Klopp will come under fire.”

Klopp has insisted that he intends to honour his contract with Liverpool, which runs until the summer of 2024.
