McInnes decided to part ways with Aberdeen earlier this week after spending eight years as manager at Pittodrie.

The decision for him leave the club came after a run of just two wins in ten games, which left Aberdeen trailing third-placed Hibernian by three points in the Scottish Premiership.

Edmondson joined Aberdeen on loan from Leeds last summer and played under McInnes’ tutelage until December when his stint was cut short.

He featured 14 times for Aberdeen during his loan spell and despite his short stay, the striker indicated that he developed a lot of respect for McInnes as a manager.

The Leeds loanee, who is currently at Northampton Town, thanked the 49-year-old for the opportunities he got at Pittodrie.

“Thank you for every opportunity you gave me gaffa”, Edmondson wrote on Twitter.

“You’ll forever have my gratitude and respect.”

McInnes took charge of Aberdeen in 2013 and led the club to their first trophy in two decades the following year when they won the Scottish League Cup.
