Two goals for Harry Kane were good enough to hand Tottenham a 2-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday evening.

The result puts Tottenham in firm contention to make it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and Nicol admits that Mourinho just got it done without Spurs playing brilliantly.

He stressed that the north London club hardly got out of first gear and despite some of the pretty football that Dinamo Zagreb played, it had the look of a practice match for Tottenham.

The former Liverpool star also admitted that he would not rule out Mourinho from leading Tottenham all the way in the Europa League as it is hard to bet against him in a cup competition.

Nicol said on ESPN FC: “This is what he is all about, he just gets it done.

“They weren’t fantastic today, they kind of were in first gear as well.

“Zagreb have got some nice players, play some nice football, but there was no cutting edge and this was a bit of a practice match for Spurs.

“You can’t bet against Jose Mourinho in this competition or any competition.”

Tottenham have a big game lined up on Sunday when they will take on Arsenal in the north London derby at the Emirates.
