The Reds are yet to tie down Wijnaldum to a new contract, with his current deal set to end in the summer and he has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
It has been a topic of discussion among the Liverpool faithful on who could replace the 30-year-old if he leaves and former top flight star Meyler has weighed in with his pick.
The 31-year-old sees Foxes midfielder Tielemans as a great potential replacement for Wijnaldum, with the Belgian being able to add more competition to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield department with his creativity.
Meyler explained that Tielemans could partner up with Jordan Henderson in the middle of he park, with Fabinho sitting in holding midfield, while Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones could provide options off the bench.
Asked how he sees Tielemans fitting in to the Liverpool midfield, Meyler told Off The Ball: “I think the big thing is all this talk over Wijnaldum.
“I know he has come out recently and said that he would be devastated to leave Liverpool.
“Of course, he has been a phenomenal servant for the last few years, the success they had in the Champions League and the Premier League, he was pivotal to all that.
“I think the way I was kind of looking at it [Tielemans joining Liverpool] would be, he would be his replacement.
“The only thing is that energy that Gini does bring, but if you were to pick a Liverpool midfield three, for me it would be Fabinho sitting as the holding midfielder, you would have Henderson and Tielemans.
“Of course, then that is kind of if Wijnaldum moves on.
“Then you have got Thiago, Curtis Jones.
“So, there would be a little bit of competition there and I would love to see that midfield tried out anyway because I do think that Tielemans is creative.”
All eyes will be on whether the Merseyside giants will be able to renew Wijnaldum’s contract, with him having played an integral role under Klopp over the last few seasons.
