Tottenham suffered a bruising 2-1 defeat in the north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday and it delivered another big blow to their hopes of breaking into the top four.

Spurs have been accused of playing defensive football under Mourinho and the Tottenham boss has been blamed for not using the attacking gems he has in his squad.

However, Nevin stressed that the current Tottenham team do not look or feel like a side who are coached by Mourinho.

He pointed out that the hallmarks of Mourinho’s great teams were a solid structure and the fact that they were built by the man himself.

But the former winger believes the 58-year-old is just trying hard to get the best out of what he has available in the team.

Nevin said on Off The Ball: “They are not a Jose Mourinho team, I don’t think they are in any way a Jose Mourinho team.

“A Jose Mourinho team have got certain things about them and you always see the structure first and you all see that structure is organised, it stays in certain positions, he has good control over it and he has almost always built it.

“It doesn’t look like a Jose team, it doesn’t feel like a Jose team and it is almost kind of riding on the back of what he has got.”

Tottenham are sitting eighth in the league table and are six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
