With the league title won, Rangers are keen to rub it into Celtic on Sunday when they square off against each other at Parkhead.

Celtic have been miles off Rangers in the title race this season and are currently a whopping 20 points behind their Glasgow rivals.

But Pearson believes there is no reason why Celtic cannot beat Rangers in the derby on Sunday because they still have the quality in their squad.

He also feels it is a good opportunity for interim manager John Kennedy to audition for the permanent role ahead of the summer.

However, the former Bhoy believes the game will be important as it is a change for Celtic to make Rangers know that they will come hard at them next season regardless of what happened in the ongoing campaign.

Pearson said on the Celtic Huddle Podcast: “There is no reason why they can’t win the game on Sunday.

“Looking at the players we have got and I think for John Kennedy as well it’s a big opportunity for him to stake a claim on how he can galvanise the players.

“It’s a big game for John as well as for the players and for everybody.

“Celtic need to go and put a marker down and say this season has not been great but we are not going to be as bad next season and we are going to be back.

“This is an opportunity to put that right on Sunday.”

Celtic have lost the last three derbies to Rangers and have not beaten the Gers since December 2019.
