The Austria international is one of the most important players for Julian Nagelsmann at RB Leipzig and is also currently the captain of the Bundesliga club.

However, the 27-year-old is edging closer to the final year of his contract with the German top flight club, with his current deal running out in the summer of 2022.

Sabitzer’s performances for RB Leipzig, coupled with his contract situation, have seen him attract transfer interest from Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham.

Despite the midfielder garnering significant interest, RB Leipzig have not made significant progress in their attempts to tie the player down to a new contract.

According to German sports magazine Kicker, the Bundesliga club are yet to open talks with Sabitzer over a new contract.

Apart from Sabitzer, Emil Forsberg, Marcel Halstenberg and Willi Orban are also nearing the end of their contract with RB Leipzig.

However, Orban is the only player the club have opened talks with over a new deal so far.
