The Scottish Premiership is heading towards the business end of the season, but Steven Gerrard’s side have already sealed their place on top of the league table.

Having dominated the league this season, Rangers have also placed themselves in a position to dominate the individual awards at the end of the campaign.

Picking his options for the player of the year awards, Ibrox great Hateley has asserted that McGregor and Davis are the top contenders for the accolades.

The former Gers striker pointed out how McGregor, as well as Davis, has been sensational for Gerrard’s side despite being one of the oldest players in the league and stressed the need for the club to hand the goalkeeper a new deal.

[It will be important for Rangers to tie McGregor to a new deal] without a shadow of a doubt“, Hateley told Ten10 Podcasts.

I think he has been sensational, he will probably be in one in two spots for the player of the year [and the] sports writers’ player of the year.

It will be between them two [McGregor and Davis] without a shadow of a doubt, two oldest players in the league.

Rangers stars Conor Goldson and James Tavernier are also considered to be strong contenders for the player of the year awards but Hateley believes McGregor and Davis have displayed more this season.

Yes [Goldson has been immense] but I still think because of their profile and the age and obviously all that sort of stuff I think that highlights, even more, their ability to perform“, the Englishman added.

Rangers have extended Davis’ contract until the end of next season and will be hopeful of agreeing a new deal with 39-year-old McGregor soon.
