Lingard scored one and assisted another in West Ham’s 3-3 draw against Arsenal at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The attacking midfielder joined West Ham on loan from Manchester United in the winter transfer window and has not put a foot wrong since arriving at the club.
Curbishley pointed out that the Hammers needed someone in the number 10 position and David Moyes showed astuteness in getting Lingard from Manchester United in January.
He admitted that for some reason the midfielder was struggling at Old Trafford but stressed that it is clear that he is enjoying life at West Ham at the moment and is loving his football.
Curbishley said on Premier League TV after the game: “West Ham needed someone in that number 10 position.
“[Manuel] Lanzini was doing it and he took a bad injury a couple of seasons ago and he has not really recovered.
“They needed a number 10 who can score and make goals, and that’s what Jesse Lingard could do but he wasn’t doing it at Old Trafford for one reason or the other.
“David knew him, obviously being at Man United, and he didn’t hesitate when there was an opportunity and he is repaying him.
“Before the game, I was watching the warm-up, he was laughing, enjoying himself and he is just happy to be playing.”
West Ham could try to keep Lingard on a permanent basis in the summer, but it remains to be seen if they will be able to agree a deal with Manchester United.
