A product of the Chelsea academy, the 22-year-old midfielder has established himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet at Stamford Bridge.

There were suggestions that Frank Lampard’s exit and Thomas Tuchel’s arrival could hamper his progress, but Mount is one of the top stars in the German’s plans as well.

Chelsea are known for their lack of patience needed to blood in youngsters into their first team, but the former Blue feels Mount is the shining example for the ones who are keen to break into the senior squad.

He believes the 22-year-old midfielder is the real-life example for youngsters who could now believe that they have a realistic chance of playing in the Chelsea first-team despite the club’s reputation.

“It just gives you that boost to say it’s possible”, Duberry told The Athletic.

“Now the gulf between kids in academies and first-team level is even bigger, so to see someone like Mason Mount in the first team makes all the difference.

“It tells you that you’re not just wasting your time.

“That’s what it does for every kid who’s putting on their tracksuit to go into training at Chelsea.

“Someone like Mason was there three years ago, where they are now.

“It gives some realism to it, so it’s not just a dream anymore.”

Mount is also an important member of the England squad and has ten international caps to his name.
