Rangers were able to dethrone nine-in-row champions Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season and are yet to taste defeat in the league.

The Gers have come on top two out of three times they have taken on Celtic so far this season, while the third meeting on Sunday ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ex-Rangers star McCann feels the Gers’ dominance in Scotland over Celtic is set to continue next season as well as the Hoops are set to need a rebuild under a new manager.

McCann went on to stress that Rangers, who look rejuvenated under Steven Gerrard, believe they are back to where they think they belong and it will now take a lot for Celtic to knock their arch rivals off the perch next season.

“For next season, Rangers right now are in a strong position because they are champions”, McCann wrote in his BBC column.

“To become a champion and dethrone someone takes an unbelievable amount of work. But to stay there is harder.

“Every champion will tell you that, whether it’s in boxing, snooker, you name it.

“Celtic will be smarting and will try to regroup.

“It’s a difficult rebuild they’ve got because they’ve got the managerial situation to sort out, the playing squad, director of football, as well as a new chief executive.

“It’s a full revamp.

“They’re going against a Rangers side just now that are rejuvenated.

“There’s a power about them and a belief in the club that they’re back to where they think they belong.

“And that’s going to take some stopping.”

Both teams still have the Scottish Cup to fight for this season while the Gers will also be keen on remaining unbeaten in the league.
