The centre-back opted against renewing his contract at the Etihad Stadium and is set to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

Garcia’s boyhood club Barcelona are touted to be his destination and they have been heavily linked with a move for him him since last summer.

However, Garcia remained tight-lipped on about his future plans and indicated he does not regret not penning a fresh contract at Manchester City.

The 20-year-old admitted he still has great admiration for Barcelona and added playing with Blaugrana talisman Messi would be special for him.

“I made the decision at the time [to not renew my contract at Manchester City]”, Garcia told a press conference.

“What I will do in the future I do not know, now I am focused, on Manchester City and the national team.”

And he added that: “playing alongside Messi would be very special.

“He is the best in the world. Everyone would say that.

“We see week after week what he does and it is incredible.”

With Garcia currently in line to leave Manchester in the summer as a free agent, he is expected to be turning out at the Camp Nou next term in La Liga.
