Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton last weekend felt like a culmination point for many, who felt Bruce could be sacked following a run of two wins in 18 league games.

But Newcastle were swift to dispel the rumours and made it clear that their under-fire manager has the backing of owner Mike Ashley.

Many Newcastle fans are incensed at the club’s backing of Bruce, who has never been a popular man amongst the supporters, despite his love for the Magpies.

If Newcastle do choose to sack Bruce though, it is claimed they would have to pay him a hefty sum in compensation.

While he is on a relatively low salary compared to other Premier League managers, the former defender has a termination clause which is in excess of £4m.

There are also suggestions that Newcastle have not identified anyone who could come in now and replace Bruce.

With a high termination clause and no clear successor identified, it seems the Newcastle manager will limp on until the end of the season.
