Tomori joined Serie A giants AC Milan on a six-month loan deal in January having struggled to earn regular game time at parent club Chelsea during the first half of this season.

The centre-back has already made six starts in the Italian top flight for AC Milan and has caught the eye with some solid outings.

Former Rossoneri coach Capello has lauded Tomori as a great signing, and extended credit to the AC Milan deal-makers for scouting and roping in the Chelsea star.

Capello feels Tomori’s pace is one of his biggest strengths, which coupled with his ability to mark, makes him a top defender.

“Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara know about football”, Capello told Italian outlet PianetaMilan.it.

“They are competent, they have seen the qualities of this player and have certainly known him for a long time.

“They made a great signing, because Tomori’s pace is one of the most important attributes for any defender, besides obviously knowing how to mark.

“Speed helps a lot.”

AC Milan have an option to make Tomori’s loan stint permanent for £27m and it remains to be seen whether they will fork out the cash in the summer should they decide to swoop for his signature.
