Morelos scored his first goal against Celtic in Rangers’ 1-1 draw at Parkhead earlier this month and recently won the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award.

The 24-year-old striker has netted 16 times in all competitions this season but Jackson insisted that he has been far from his best for Rangers in the ongoing campaign.

He indicated that Rangers’ excellent form has masked Morelos’ inconsistent form and pointed out that the forward started the season slowly.

But Jackson feels scoring against Celtic must have come as a relief for the striker and he has come good for Rangers just at the right time this season.

The former Celtic star said on PLZ Soccer: “I have always thought he was a good player.

“I don’t think he has been as good this season. Rangers have been incredibly consistent but I don’t think he has been in top form.

“But he has come right at the right time.

“He has got his Old Firm goal, I would have loved to score in an Old Firm game.

“He has got that off his back and now he doesn’t have to worry about that.

“He has become a better player as the season went on.

“I thought he was quiet at the start, he wasn’t scoring as many, wasn’t playing as well but he is coming good at the right time.”

The Colombian forward has netted 93 goals in 176 appearances for Rangers since joining the club in 2017 and could be in demand in the summer transfer window.
