With Scott Brown leaving Celtic for Aberdeen in the summer, the new Celtic manager will have a decision to make who inherits the veteran captain’s armband.

With no standout candidates in the squad at the moment, many fans feel that McGregor is likely to become the next club captain at Celtic.

Wilson stressed that there is no doubt about what the midfielder has done for Celtic over the years, but he feels that McGregor might not get the captain’s armband next season.

The former Celtic star insisted that if the new manager is given the funds to sign a big-name player in the summer, McGregor could miss out on becoming the captain at Parkhead.

Wilson said on the Celtic Huddle Podcast: “I must say I love Callum McGregor and he has done a fantastic job, but I just think it will be somebody else or somebody new.

“I think it might be somebody new.

“Whoever the manager is, if they get one of these big signings, it could be somebody new.”

A product of the Celtic academy, McGregor has featured 320 times for the club and has netted 53 goals and provided 63 assists for his team-mates.
