The 19-year-old joined Scottish League Two club Queen’s Park from Glasgow giants Celtic on a short-term loan deal to earn first team experience this month.
Connell made his second start for the Spiders against Albion Rovers on Tuesday and marked the occasion by scoring his first senior goal and helping the side earn a 3-0 win.
Queen’s Park boss McKinnon was full of praise for the Celtic loan star after his goalscoring performance, hailing the midfielder’s qualities.
The Scottish tactician expressed his delight for Connell, who also provided an assist on the night, and heaped praise on his ability on the ball, creativity, shooting ability and hard work.
“He’s a talented young kid“, McKinnon told QPTV.
“He has got a lot of attributes to his game, technically he is lovely on the ball, he is hard-working, he can mix it as well, creative.
“But he has got an excellent shot as well, which was seen with the goal tonight [Tuesday; ed.].
“So really happy for him.“
Connell has contributed to three goals from two appearances for Queen’s Park and will be looking to add more to the tally between now and the end of the season.
