Agger joined Liverpool from Danish outfit Brondby in January 2006 and went on to acquire the status of club legend during his eight years at Anfield.
However, the Dane’s career was plagued with injuries, which ultimately led him to put an end to his time as a football player in 2016 at the age of just 31.
Five years after hanging up his boots, Agger has decided to return to the world of football by taking charge as the head coach of Danish second tier club Koge.
The 36-year-old believes Koge is the perfect place for him to start his managerial career and revealed that he is looking forward to feeling the pressure of football again.
“The idea of returning to a new role in the football industry and testing myself has grown on me in recent years“, Agger told the club’s website.
“HB Koge is the perfect place for me to start.
“The club rest on healthy values and have a solid foundation.
“The crucial thing for me is that I personally know several of those who run HB Koge on a daily basis.
“I am very much looking forward to getting started – and yes, I look forward to coming under pressure again.“
Having seen Steven Gerrard succeed with Rangers, Liverpool fans will be hoping that another Anfield great can make his mark in management.
