The Whites, who are currently 11th in the Premier League, are on course to tick off their priority target of staying in the top flight for next season.
Leeds’ hierarchy are keen on helping the club climb the ranks further with each passing season and ex-Whites star Matteo has picked out positions that the club need to bolster as boss Marcelo Bielsa is expected to be backed in the summer transfer window.
Spanish striker Rodrigo was snapped up by Bielsa’s side last summer to provide competition for Leeds hitman Bamford but the 30-year-old has predominantly played in a number 10 role while also facing injury issues, which Matteo feels should be dealt with this summer by bringing in a new marksman.
The 46-year-old added left-back should be another area that needs to be sorted out when the transfer window swings open next time.
“He [Bielsa] is trying to find his best back-four and that’s something that can be looked at in the final games”, Matteo wrote in his Yorkshire Evening Post column.
“Left-back is a position that needs to be sorted out in the summer, however.
“That and another striker would be the positions I would highlight when it comes to the transfer window.
“Patrick Bamford has been unbelievable but another striker to bring some competition and a few more goals to the table would help everyone.
“The role Patrick plays is very hard so, whoever they get, has to be a certain type of striker, with that ability he has to put himself about, press and score goals.
“I always like to see a striker come in; it gives everyone a lift.”
Ezgjan Alioski, who regularly slots in at left-back, is yet to sign a new deal at the club with his contract expiring in the summer, while another recognised left-back Barry Douglas, who is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers, is expected to leave Leeds after the current campaign, with his deal also running out.
