The Reds have endured a tough top flight campaign as defending champions that have seen them drop out of the top six, with a nightmare run of games at Anfield playing a big role in their woes.

Despite their struggles at home, Liverpool have seen better fortune on the road with six wins in their last seven away from Anfield across all competitions.

The Reds are set to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend and Liverpool legend Aldridge expects the visitors to turn up and put on a strong display as they have been excellent away from home.

Aldridge added that if Liverpool have put in the work in training, they are sure to get a positive result against the Gunners, but stressed Jurgen Klopp has had to work with a smaller group of players with most of his squad away on international duty.

“Liverpool will get their rewards if they put the work in for this game [against Arsenal] but Jurgen hasn’t had most of his players this week in training so he has been working with a smaller bunch”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“That means it is difficult to assess how they might handle this massive break between games.

“One thing they can point towards, though, is Liverpool’s away form this season.

“The run at Anfield has understandably taken the limelight but the Reds have been excellent away from home all season, aside from one or two results.

“The Aston Villa game is the obvious one there, but six wins in the last seven away from Anfield has been comparatively good.

“If you look at the six games they have lost, matches they would normally win at Anfield, given they only dropped two points there all last season, then that is an extra 18 points and they would be right up there, comfortably inside the top four.

“Even in the Champions League, the away form has been good, so this Saturday is a game where I expect Liverpool will turn up.”

Liverpool came out on top in a 3-1 win when they clashed with Arsenal earlier this season in the top flight and will be determined to do the league double over the capital club.
