The Suffolk-based club are pushing to claw their way back into the Championship, having dropped down to League One at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Ipswich’s general manager of football operations O’Neill has identified recruitment as one area the club need to improve on as they look to earn promotion to the Championship.
O’Neill revealed that the Tractor Boys have been looking at the recruitment operations of Scottish champions Rangers, as well as English sides Leicester City and Brentford, in an attempt to improve their system.
The Ipswich supremo pointed out how the Gers’ have done well with their recruitment since Steven Gerrard, Michael Beale and Gary McAllister joined the club and expressed his desire to learn from them.
“We are investing more into the recruitment area of the club because it’s clearly a vital component of any football club“, O’Neill told the club’s site.
“We have looked at what clubs like Leicester and Brentford have done for a few years and Rangers over the last year or so as well, with some of the Liverpool staff going up there.
“A lot of the bigger clubs are using data and statistics as a big part of their recruitment.
“The days of just going off someone’s opinion are going.
“It’s about identifying a player and breaking down the analysis to find out how you get the best out of that player and whether he will fit into the way you want to play.“
Gerrard has made significant additions to his squad since taking charge as the manager of Rangers in 2018, which has helped him lead the club to the Scottish Premiership title this season.
