David Moyes’ men sit seventh in the table, two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, with nine games left to play in the Premier League this season.

With Hammers still in the mix for a top four finish this season, the upcoming home matches against third-placed Leicester City, fourth-placed Chelsea and Everton could play a big part in deciding their final position in the league table.

As they push to make a strong finish to their season, Irons defender Diop has stressed the need for his side to grab victory one way or the other in their remaining league matches if they want to be rewarded with European qualification.

The Hammers number 23 reflected on their gritty performance against Leeds United last month where they won 2-0 as he insisted his team need to win ugly if called for.

“The energy to push for a strong finish to the season will come from everyone at the club – the Gaffer, the players, the coaches, the Directors, the people around the team”, Diop told West Ham United’s official site.

“Everyone wants to finish the season well and I hope that’s what we’re going to do.

“Of course, we all want to play very good football and have a lot of chances and not concede a single shot but, in football, sometimes it’s not possible, it’s not like this and you have to win ugly, like we did against Leeds United recently.

“We are happy when we do this.

“We’re just taking things game by game and we’ll see where we finish in the table.

“We want to be as high as possible and, if want to do that, we need to win most of our games, and we hope that happens.

“The energy is really good in the squad.

“We are happy and we are enjoying this season and how we’re playing, so the atmosphere is very good.”

After starting in the Hammers’ last six matches in the Premier League, Diop will look to continue making the West Ham starting eleven for the remaining games.
