Newcastle gave a massive boost to their chances of Premier League survival last weekend when they earned a point at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

They have a three-point lead over Fulham in 18th and have a game in hand on the London club.

Newcastle have received a massive injury boost with their top scorer Callum Wilson set to return to the squad this weekend following a lengthy layoff due to a hamstring injury.

Bruce has remained concerned over Ryan Fraser’s fitness, but revealed that Carroll could also be available for selection if he gets through in the next couple of training sessions ahead of the game.

The Newcastle manager said in a press conference: “I am sure everybody will be asking about Callum, he will be in the squad.

“He’s trained all week.

“Carroll has a chance, Fraser hasn’t improved at all. That is a bit of a worry, a groin injury.

“Big training session today for Carroll, he has not trained for two and a half weeks.”

Carroll, 32, has made just four starts in the Premier League this season and has played just 15 minutes of league football since February.
