Shved joined Belgian top flight club Mechelen on a season-long loan from Celtic last summer after struggling to earn playing time at Parkhead in the 2019/20 campaign.

Having contributed to seven goals from 18 appearances across all competitions, the 23-year-old has convinced Mechelen to make efforts to retain his services beyond the summer.

The Belgian club have the option to buy Shved for a fee said to be in the region of £3m, but have opened talks with Celtic to extend his loan contract instead as the buy-out sum is out of their budget.

Addressing Shved’s future, Mechelen boss Vrancken has expressed his desire to see the forward stay at the club beyond his current loan contract, but revealed that talks with Celtic are on hold, with the Scottish club going through major changes.

A wholesale change is going on at Celtic“, Vrancken was quoted as saying by Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

There will be a different coach and technical director.

The people we talked to are gone now.

Marian has clearly indicated that he would like to be and stay here.

I also think that’s best for him.

He needs stability.

Shved has scored three goals and provided two assists from 16 league appearances for Mechelen so far this season.
